Topic: CNTL+ALT+PAY: Rebooting Payroll With AI
Ready to hit refresh on how you think about payroll? In Cntl+Alt+Pay: Rebooting Payroll with AI, we'll pull back the curtain on how artificial intelligence is reshaping the payroll landscape - turning tedious tasks, data overload, and compliance chaos into streamlined, smart, and scalable solutions. This isn't just another tech talk; it's a wake-up call for payroll pros who are ready to stop surviving and start thriving in the age of automation.
Join us as we break down what AI actually means for your day-to-day, how it can eliminate errors before they happen, and why your next payroll teammate might not even be human (but will definitely make your life easier). Expect real-world examples, a few jaw dropping stats, and a clear game plan to help you lead the charge in this new era of payroll innovation.
It's time to reboot. Let's Cntl+Alt+Pay!
Speaker: Gerard Hall, CPP - "That Payroll Guy"
When it comes to payroll, Gerard doesn’t just process numbers—he processes possibilities. As Director of Operations for CBIZ HCM and the powerhouse behind That Payroll Guy, LLC, Gerard has built a career on blending compliance with creativity. He’s a frequent voice on legislative updates (yes, he reads IRS drafts so you don’t have to), a mentor to rising payroll professionals, and a recognized Top Payroll Influencer by PayrollOrg.
Gerard has presented at conferences nationwide, including PayrollOrg’s Virtual Congress, and leads with the philosophy that payroll isn’t just about paychecks—it’s about people, precision, and a touch of wit. Whether he’s breaking down the Secure Act 2.0, designing training scorecards, or reminding everyone why payroll is the heart of HR, Gerard brings knowledge with personality.
When he’s not deep in compliance updates, you’ll find him cheering on Virginia Tech football, creating witty LinkedIn posts, or planning the next big payroll event. Simply put: if payroll had a hype man, it’d be Gerard.
Outreach:

Second Story transforms the lives of children, youth and their families by providing safe havens and opportunities for them to grow and thrive. Their programs provide support at critical turning points in their lives.
- Second Story for Homeless Youth and Second Story for Young Mothers offer long-term housing as well as life skills support, counseling, and assistance with basic needs.
- Second Story for Teens in Crisis provides a short-term place to stay for youth in crisis, plus individual and family counseling.
- Second Story in the Community provides drop-in centers for families and after-school programs for youth who need more support outside their homes; many of them living in communities where human trafficking, violence, and gang activity are prevalent.
Though these safe spaces are the first step, they also work closely with youth and families to help them achieve their goals and work toward self-sufficiency, breaking cycles of homelessness, abuse, and poverty. All of their programs are located in Northern Virginia, though depending on the circumstance youth outside of our community can receive support as well.
Second Story was founded in 1972 and has a longstanding history of youth services and support. Their programs have grown and evolved as the needs of our community have changed, and they continue to work toward our vision of a community in which all young people are safe, live in a nurturing environment and have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
For 2026, WMAC has set a fundraising goal of $3,000.00. WMAC will match all donations made to Second Story through our website. Click here to be taken to the donations page.
