Topic 1: How to Speak Up and Be Heard

Have you ever been in a meeting and wanted to speak up but didn’t know how? You’re not alone. Join us on September 9th as Lori Brown, Finance Director for Payroll Operations at Hanger, Inc., shares how she gained the confidence to speak up and the valuable lessons learned along the way to increase her effectiveness.

“I knew how to speak up, but I didn’t know if anyone was listening or cared. Over the years, I’ve developed better communication skills and tricks that help me speak up in ways that compel people to listen. I’d like to share my experiences so that the next time you speak up, your voice is heard.” – Lori Brown, CPP

Topic 2: Payroll Best Practices

The SPLTF Best Practices group recently considered the topic of “Preventing Payroll Errors During Unplanned Staffing Shortages.”  This is always a relevant topic for payroll leaders; but during the pandemic, it became an urgent topic.

In this presentation we will discuss the ideas of the SPLTF/BP group for keeping the Payroll department and staff prepared for an unexpected staffing shortage.

  • If your process is to redistribute the work across the existing staff
    • How do you keep them current?
    • How do you reward those who carried the extra work load?
  • If you have documentation – how do you know it works?
  • If you don’t have documentation – how do you develop it?
  • When do you seek temporary help?
  • How do you handle security for a temporary person?

The answers to these questions were as varied as the companies represented on the SPLTF/BP sub-committee.  Keeping in mind – “The best ideas are those you steel borrow from other people” – discovering what the members of the SPLTF/BP are doing should provide plenty of ideas to put in practice at your organization.
